Legislature tackles everything from ice fishing to turkey hunting

The legislature’s Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Committee will be busy this session. I’m writing a series of columns about all the bills of interest to sportsmen and women.

While we await details of these bills, we can guess from the titles what is being proposed. Here are some more titles and sponsors. Many of these are not new ideas.

And Senator Shenna Bellows turkey bill includes some of my suggestions.

Title: An Act To Move the Bureau of Parks and Lands from the Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry to the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife – Rep. Thomas Scolfield of Weld

Title: An Act To Require the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife To Implement a Firearm Safety and Firearm Violence Prevention Program – Rep. Ryan Fecteau of Biddeford

Title: An Act To Modify Maine’s Ice Fishing Laws – Rep. Chad Grignon of Athens

Title: An Act To Decrease the Risk of the Spread of Invasive Aquatic Plants from Fishing Tournaments – Rep. Ryan Fecteau of Biddeford

Title: An Act To Require Freshwater Hooks and Lures To Be Biodegradable – Sen. Paul Davis, Sr. of Piscataquis

Title: An Act To Reduce the Spread of Invasive Aquatic Plants by Prohibiting Seine Fishing on Great Ponds – Rep. Walter Riseman of Harrison

Title: An Act To Decriminalize Certain Fish and Game Violations – Sen. Michael Carpenter of Aroostook

Title: An Act To Encourage Turkey Hunting – Sen. Shenna Bellows of Kennebec

Title: An Act To Change the Bag Limits on Wild Turkey – Sen. Dave Miramant of Knox

Title: An Act To Exempt Retired Members of the United States Armed Forces from the Hunter Safety Course Requirement for Hunting Licenses – Rep. Amy Arata of New Gloucester
