You won’t believe the taxidermy in Giguere’s October 24 auction!

Dort Bigg 6I’ve been wondering what happened to Dort Bigg’s amazing taxidermy collection and now I know. Jerry Giguere will feature some of the collection in his October 24 auction. Gerry’s annual auctions featuring sporting gear, guns, and collections are always entertaining, but this one will be especially impressive.

Dort Bigg 5Dort grew up on my road in Mount Vernon and went on to be a nationally-prominent attorney. But to those of us who hunt and fish, he was best known as a respected sportsman who hunted the world and loved to share his stories and his collection of taxidermy, much of which was in his house and barn in Turner.

Dort BigFor my Dad’s 80th birthday, I took him to Dort’s to show him the collection. It was a wondrous day that we both enjoyed and never forgot. I especially loved Dort’s story of how he had to cut a section out of all four legs of his full-mount elephant to get it into the barn.

Truthfully, I didn’t even know what some of those critters were! But boy, were they impressive. The trophy animals from Dort’s collection that are in Giguere’s auction will impress you too. And maybe you’ll want to buy one!

Dort Bigg 10Among the animals scheduled for the auction are an African monkey and African Hyenas, Louisiana alligator, Corsican Ram, Ibex, Alaskan brown bear, hippo, Olive African Baboon, and Zebra. No, the elephant isn’t listed for this auction!

Dort Bigg 9The auction is scheduled to begin at 10 am on Saturday, October 24, at Wildwood Function Center on Route 113 in Steep Falls, Maine. If you want more information, check out their website or give them a call at 207-892-3800.
