Belgrade Lakes Region

Swan Lake in Swanville has been hot all winter for good numbers of lake trout, certainly the best lake trout fishing in the central Maine region! Other recommended fishing spots include Kalers Pond in Waldoboro for brook trout, Spectacle Pond for a more remote experience, and Rocky Pond for a kids only experience.

From Fisheries Resource Supervisor Jason Seiders

Grand Lake Region

Anglers continue to catch good numbers of lake trout, salmon, and lake whitefish at West Grand Lake in the town of Grand Lake Stream. Anglers are also having great success catching lake trout at West Musquash Lake, salmon at Long Pond, lake trout at Eagle Lake, and terrific sized brook trout and salmon at Echo Lake.

From Fisheries Resource Supervisor Gregory Burr

Rangeley Lakes Region

Chain of Ponds in Chain of Ponds Township is a great place to go in March and has both wild and stocked populations of brook trout and a wild landlocked salmon population. Anglers are also encouraged to try Haley Pond in Rangeley for brook trout, Emden Pond in Emden for larger lake trout, and Webb Lake in Weld for brook trout, brown trout, and landlocked salmon.

From Fisheries Resource Supervisor David Howatt

Moosehead Region

Chesuncook Lake is a sure bet if you are looking for salmon this season! Anglers are encouraged to harvest legal salmon caught at Chesuncook. Harlow and Manhanock Ponds in Parkman and Sangerville are good bets for white perch and pickerel this time of year.

From Fisheries Resource Supervisor Tim Obrey

Penobscot Region

Folks looking for warmwater species should head to Mattawamkeag Lake in Island Falls where they will find awesome pickerel, white perch, and smallmouth bass fishing. Anglers in search of splake should try Lower Togue Pond in T2 R9 WELS. The splake growth is remarkable at Lower Togue and the view of Mount Katahdin cannot be beat.

From Fisheries Resource Supervisor Kevin Dunham

Fish River Lakes Region

March is often called “togue month” by seasoned anglers and with the recent new state record lake trout in New Hampshire, Frank is curious if Maine’s record will be broken at one of the well-known togue waters in northern Maine. Anglers seeking large togue should try Eagle Lake in Eagle Lake, St. Froid Lake in Winterville Plantation, Big Eagle Lake in T8R13 WELS, or Glazier Lake in T18R10 WELS.
