I was delighted to hear, in August, that my granddaughters had climbed Burnt Mountain in Baxter Park with their parents, our son Josh and his wife Kelly. The granddaughters, Esme and Ada, are 2 ½ and 5 years old.
Josh said he kept Esme climbing by feeding her chocolates!
Our camp is on the edge of Baxter Park, and I have photos of our kids on top of many of the park’s mountains. I’ve often suggested that people skip Katahdin, which can be very crowded, especially in the summer, and hike one of Baxter’s other wonderful mountains, where you can often be all by yourself.
I’m sharing a photo of Josh and the girls at the top of Burnt Mountain.
