Great kid’s guide to Acadia National Park

If you are headed to Acadia National Park with kids, you’ll want a copy of The Kid’s Guide To Acadia National Park by Eileen Ogintz, published by Down East Books. This book is a treasure, full of great ideas for the amazing things that kids will enjoy in and near the park.

The book will keep kids busy, and not just in the park. The book includes games and quizzes and great quotes from kids who love the park. On of my favorites was this quote from 11-year-old Darrin of Portland: “You can get crazy souvenirs here, like bags of moose poop candy. It’s just chocolates, but it’s a pretty funny gift to give someone.” Yes, Darrin it sure is!

From hikes to lighthouses and rainy day and winter fun to spring flowers and playgrounds, year-round fun for kids is everywhere in this book, which will certainly keep your kids – and you too – very busy. They even recommend a day trip to one of the nearby islands. I would recommend Swan’s Island and the Frenchboro lobster festival.

They even suggest places to eat, tell you all about the whales you may see, and the colorful birds that live there.

Eileen Ogintz has a syndicated column called Taking the Kids and has written 8 books. She’s a national writer and expert on family travel.

You’ll want to read the book before your kids get hold of it, because there are so many things for them in the book that you’ll never get it back!
