James Rockefeller Jr. has enjoyed a very adventuresome life, which he shared with us in his book Wayfarer, published by Islandport Press.
The book’s subtitle is “a memoir” and boy does he have a lot of great memories. Rockefeller has spent much of his life sailing the world where he particularly enjoyed very small islands inhabited by only a few people, many of whom became lifelong friends of his. And some of those people were real characters – very entertaining.
The book does include both dangers and tragedies, along with all the wonderful stories.
What really drew me to this book was the fact that Rockefeller had a family home on Vinalhaven, and that place became his sanctuary and the place he loved the most.
While he continued to sail the seas, Rockefeller also took to the air, spending more than 2000 hours flying. Yup, he loves adventure!
Rockefeller is a cofounder of the Owls Head Transportation Museum, a very interesting place, and he was its chairman until 2017. If you’ve never been to that museum, I encourage you to visit.
And for sure, pick up a copy of Wayfarer which you are sure to enjoy.
