Mystery of the Bear Cub by Tamra Wight is a “middle grade fiction book” so I don’t know where that puts me because I really liked the book. No question about it, I’m too old for middle grade!
The story is set in a Maine camp ground, focused on some boys that are real outdoor adventurers. Paddling across the lake, they discover the ruins of an old inn, and spend a lot of time digging around there and looking for valuable things.
Eventually they discover that somebody is illegally dumping trash on the property and that’s where the story gets alarming. I don’t want to give it all away but the finish is pretty amazing. And yes, bears are involved. I also enjoyed the funny illustrations by Carl DiRocco.
Tamra lives in Poland, Maine, where she has run the Poland Spring campground with her husband and their two children for 25 years. She has written four previous books. Check out her wildlife photos on her website, www.tamrawight.com.
And then get yourself a copy of this book. But before you share it with the kids, be sure to read it yourself.
