Backcountry Hunters and Anglers Schedule a Fun Event

The New England Backcountry Hunters and Anglers have scheduled a fun event on August 10-12 on Swan’s Island in Richmond. If you’ve never been to Swan’s Island, it’s a very special and historic island in the Kennebec River managed by Maine’s Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.

At the Backcountry event, there will be a great mix of workshops, a wild and local foods pot-luck dinner, storytelling, and more.  You can attend for one day or all 3 days. There are even some camping spots available on the island. I can tell you from personal experience, the fishing from and around the island is very good.

Backcountry Hunters and Anglers (BHA) is the fastest-growing hunting and angling organization in North America, with New England membership growing more than 10-fold since 2104.  Pushing back against the threats to our public lands and advocating for fish and wildlife habitat conservation and wild places are key policy areas, the group is making great progress bridging the gap between hunters and anglers and other conservation groups.

Younger hunters and anglers, including many who do not come from a family with those traditions, are the driving force in BHA’s growth. To help meet the needs of the new cohort of outdoorsmen and women, the New England chapter has just kicked off a new hunting mentors program for new hunters that is generating lots of excitement.

If you are able to attend this Swan’s Island event, have fun!
