The Belfast and Moosehead Lake Railroad by Joey Kelley, and published by North Country Press, is a very interesting history of Waldo County’s railroad.
And before you criticize me for thinking Moosehead Lake is in Waldo County, let me inform you that this railroad never made it to Moosehead lake and Greenville.
While the story is interesting (the railroad was launched 150 years ago), I really loved the many historic photos.
Joe Kelley is a railroad historian, photographer, and volunteer with the Brooks Preservation Society. He’s been involved with the Belfast and Moosehead Lake Railroad off and on since 2004 and was once a paid employee of the railroad’s Preservation Society.
And yes, the Belfast and Moosehead Lake Railroad is still going, operated as a tourist ride by the Brooks Preservation Society. While it’s a lot shorter ride, it really sounds like fun.
Take a ride on the railroad this summer! And be sure to take along this book.
